Up to 90 per cent of Burrard Inlet Oil Spill Would Reach Shoreline in Hours: Report

Up to 90 per cent of a Burrard Inlet oil spill would reach shoreline in hours” The Vancouver Sun reports today with the launch of an oil spill animation model.

“The model demonstrates that nowhere is safe in Burrard Inlet,” says Tsleil-Waututh Nation Chief Maureen Thomas.

“Spilled oil has the potential to foul every corner of our inlet leaving only a legacy of more pollution for our children and spoiling everything Tsleil-Waututh holds as sacred.”

The independent spill trajectory model was created for the City of Vancouver and City Of Burnaby, and the Tsleil-Waututh Nation, in response to Kinder Morgan’s pipeline expansion plans.

The animation shows the potential affects and risks of the proposed Trans Mountain Pipeline expansion with an oilspill in the harbour.
